Frequently Asked Questions - We're here to help!

We've helped thousands of students land their dream job in tech. Discover how we will help you.

Q:

How does the admissions process work?

A:

Our application process is made up of three steps:

  1. An online written application form
  2. A personal interview to get to know you better
  3. A final technical interview to assess your ability to pick up the concepts that will be covered in your course quickly.
Q:

Do you offer any scholarships?

A:

Ironhack is committed to diversity in the tech sector, so there is a discount of 10% for women in the Web Dev and Data Analytics bootcamp and for veterans in all our bootcamps. Other scholarships and discounts are launched together with partners who want to encourage education in tech and those are announced when we close an agreement. If you are interested in these initiatives, you can stay updated using this form. We don't offer general scholarships or discounts

Q:

Who are the #Ironhackers?

A:

#Ironhackers is our community of alumni, teachers, and mentors! Our relationship doesn't end once the course is over: once an Ironhacker, always an Ironhacker.

Q:

Do I need my own laptop?

A:

Yes, you should have your own computer. If you are enrolled in the Web Dev or Data Analytics Bootcamps, any operative system should be fine. For the UX/UI Design Bootcamp, we try to adapt to the industry standards so we recommend you to check what operating system they prefer. Most of campus use software like Sketch or Flinto, only available for Mac, but you can also use alternative programs. In general, the computer should have 8GB of RAM and no older than 5 years.

Q:

How do you reconcile the knowledge gap between students with different technical/programming levels?

A:

Firstly, the goal of our admissions process is to select a cohort that will be able to move more or less at the same pace. Secondly, completing the pre-work is important to make sure that everyone has the same foundational knowledge. That being said, some people will move faster than others, but that's OK! Our curriculum is designed to adapt itself to those that are moving more quickly and those that need a bit more personalized attention.

Q:

Will I be learning data science?

A:
Data retrieval, cleaning and analysis are performed by both data analysts and data scientists. Yet it’s the latter that apply machine and/or deep learning models in addition to these functions. Our Data Analytics course includes an introduction to understanding the fundamentals of machine and deep learning. However, it does not provide a complete understanding of the field.
Q:

What is the difference between the Full Time and the Part Time format?

A:

The full time program requires exclusive dedication, it is not compatible with other studies or work. The classes go from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 6pm, and you should dedicate a lot of your free time to do the daily exercises. The experience is inmersive and demanding. We recommend this program if you want to do a career change and give up your current profession.

The part time program allows you to work and study at the same time; the classes are taught two weekdays and on Saturdays. You should dedicate around 10 to 15 hours of your free time for homework. It is a demanding program, and you will have to be extremely organized to meet the deadlines. We recommend this program if you don't want to quit your job and you want to increase your network of contacts in class.

Both programs include the same content and are equally demanding, and you will have the same professional profile after graduation. We suggest that you make a decision according to your personal circumstances.

Q:

How many students are there usually per class?

A:

It varies depending on the bootcamp and campus, but we typically have around 20 students per class. There is 1 Lead Teacher per bootcamp and 1 Teacher Assistant for every 10 students.

However, for some campuses you can get public financing to study with us. For more information, contact the Admissions Manager.

Q:

What is the difference between a Bootcamp and traditional education?

A:

Bootcamps are not for everyone, even if anyone can apply for them. The concept of bootcamp comes from the military camps: it means effort, teamwork and passion above anything else. Our Bootcamps are designed for reinventing education and go beyond the passive traditional education. Learning is based on projects, and there are no grades or exams. You will get constant feedback from teachers and classmates, our methodology is hands-on and you will be supported by the Careers Department to achieve your career goals. At Ironhack, the title is not the most important thing, but our job market network, our ability to adapt the content to the market needs and the technical skills of the Ironhackers.

Q:

What is included in the program?

A:

Each program is different. In general terms, the programs include 50 hours of pre-work, 9 or 24 training weeks and 1 extra week of career support. All the programs' structures are divided in 3 modules and end with a final project that the student should create from scratch and present to the class.

Q:

What is each program about?

A:

You can download the syllabus for each course on our website. As a recap:

  • The Data Analytics Bootcamp combines Python with statistics and probability; it is the best option for those who want to work with data and decision making from a technical approach.
  • The Web Development Bootcamp is focused in coding: you will learn HTML, Javascript, CSS... to develop webistes and web applications.
  • The UX/UI Design Bootcamp gets you ready to design the user experience in a digital environment, from the research phase to the prototype creation with Sketch or Figma
Q:

What professional profile will I have at the end of the program?

A:

Ironhack bootcamps are designed for you to start your career as a Junior Data Analyst, Web Developer or UX/UI Designer profile. However, depending on your background and expectations, we can give you orientation to make sure this is the training you are looking for. During the Career Week, our Career Coaches will help you stablish your goals and will guide you in your job search.
Keep in mind that you will do a personal interview before your admission to the program and we will be able to evaluate your personal situation.

Q:

Is the program the same in all campuses?

A:

Yes, the content is the same for all Ironhack campuses. Of course, each instructor has its own teaching style but the methodology and structure will always be the same. This alignment allow us to implement changes in the curriculum when we detect global trends or include improvements based on the feedback from students coming from different parts of the world.

Q:

What is the methodology applied in the program?

A:

At Ironhack our course and teaching practices follow three themes of pedagogy established through decades of teaching and learning research:

Constructive Learning

We recognize the difference between individuals and focus on avoiding the cookie-cutter education model often found in traditional schools. We provide the maximal guidance and instructional support to our students when they need them. Meanwhile we encourage motivated and capable students to continue learning beyond the curricula by providing additional learning resources that are carefully selected to strengthen their knowledge. What's more, every student will have the opportunity to idealize, prototype, and develop their own projects they feel fun and meaningful. We try our best to make our students feel their learning experiences are fulfilling and useful for realizing their dreams.

Learning By Doing

The best way to learn technology is by doing it. Our curricula is filled up with carefully designed hands-on exercises to help students translate knowledge into skills. While applying what they think they know in the hands-on work, students often find holes and mismatches in their knowledge maps. They will then amend and fix those secretive problems. Also, during the iterative trial-and-error learning process, students will discover relations between seemingly isolated concepts and identify the most efficient way to accomplish tasks.

Cognitive Apprenticeship

You will find our instructors love explaining the "whys" in addition to the "hows" in coding and designing. This is because experts really differ from novices by knowing what to do at the right time and context. As apprentices of coding and design, it is important for the students to know the cognition of the veterans in order to really master the knowledge.

Q:

What is the pre-work? Hoy many hours do you need for it?

A:

The pre-work is a mandatory online pre-course of around 100 hours that should be done one week before the starting of the class so all students start the adventure with a similar level of knowledge.
If you want to get more information about the content of the pre-work you can check the Content of the Program or download our syllabus, where everything is explained in detail.

Q:

How many extra hours will I have to spend in homework?

A:

Ironhack Bootcamps are really demanding. If you choose the Full Time program, you will have to dedicate all your free time during the week and one weekend day (Saturday, for example). We recommend you to rest at least one day in the weekend. If you choose the Part Time program you will have to dedicate about 10 or 15 extra hours, but this is a program compatible with your 8 hours job.

Q:

Who are the teachers?

A:

Our teachers are qualified professionals with wide experience who understand the needs of the job market and are used to train students with no technical background. You can see their profiles on the website, in each campus. The Full Time teachers combine teaching with their projects and personal companies, whereas the Part Time teachers work at the same time in other companies or in their own projects.

Q:

What is the Hackshow?

A:

The Hackshow is the graduation event for students who complete the 9 weeks and the 3 projects, with this event we said goodbye to the Ironhackers and the best final projects of each edition are presented.

Q:

How does the admission process look like?

A:
  1. The process starts when you submit your application to the bootcamp, chosing your campus, program and starting date.
  2. Then, you will have to do a personal interview with the Admissions Manager. We will take into account your motivation and we will focus on your career path and goals. We will answer your questions and give you personalized information.
  3. If you succeed in the interview, you will need to take an online test. This is a challenge that will evaluate your logical and analytical skills. We will send you an email with the link to the online test, a user and a password, so you can answer the 20 to 25 logical questions in a given time of 60 minutes.
  4. When we receive the test results, the Admissions Committee will inform you via email about your admission to the program and - if possitive - we will send you the Student Agreement and the Acceptance Letter so you can enroll in the program by making your place reservation
Q:

Can I enroll in one date and change afterwards?

A:

Yes, you can change your starting date if you let us know in advance and if there are available spots in the program. Please, remember that the place reservation payment is not refundable - exceptions are only made in a case by case basis

Q:

When should I apply for the program?

A:

You should be enrolled in the program at least 1 month before the bootcamp starts so you have time to complete the mandatory pre-work. Remember that you should do your interview and the online test, so we recommend you to submit your application as soon as possible (at least 5 weeks before the program starts)

Q:

What is the admissions interview about?

A:

The admissions interview consists of a videocall or a personal interview of 30 minutes with the Admissions Manager of the chosen campus. In this interview we will get to know your profile and motivation for the selected program. We will determine if you are a good fit for the class and if you show the Ironvalues (can-do attitude, passion above anything else and love people and their stories). You will also get all your questions answered and we will let you know all the steps in the admissions process.

Q:

In which language should I do the admissions interview?

A:

The interview will be in the same language in which the program of your choice is being taught.

Q:

What is the online test about?

A:

The online test will evaluate your logical skills according to the requirements of the program. It is not a test based on knowledge but on abilities. We will send you the link, user and password so that you can take it as soon as possible. All you need is a free hour, good internet connection and avoid distractions. If you pass the test and the personal interview, you will recieve an admission letter for the program.
The test doesn't require any preparation or pre-work, you just need to show your logical skills
