How we are adapting to a safe remote learning environment. Our response to COVID-19

In this time of uncertainty, it is our priority - as it’s always been - to provide the best possible educational experience in an environment that is both collaborative and safe. In the last year, we’ve recognized that with the evolving global situation, this is a challenging time for everyone. As an educational institute, we’re constantly following the recommendations of public health experts and direction from the various government authorities in each of our locations.

To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we have implemented measures in each of our locations to be able to provide a safe learning environment. As a result, we have categorized our campuses into three different stages:

1) Stage 1 || Classes: Remote  || Campus: Closed :

In the countries that are still heavily affected by COVID-19, we are keeping a fully remote learning environment to ensure the safety of our students and staff. During this stage, the doors of our campus will remain closed and classes will be held 100% remote.

2) Stage 2 || Classes: Remote || Campus: Open

In countries where the situation has started to recover, educational institutions have slowly started to open their doors and students who are in need of a more dedicated learning environment can come back to our campus. However, classes are still being offered in our remote learning environment.

3) Stage 3 || Classes: In person || Campus: Open

In countries where the situation has reached a “new normal”, meaning cases are not increasing and the government is allowing institutions to return to their physical locations, we have reopened our campus and returned to an in-person classroom experience.

* In any of these stages classes will be held at their regular scheduled dates and times.

In every city, we are closely monitoring the status of COVID-19 and strictly applying recommendations from the World Health Organisation, governments and public health authorities. For more info on a specific course, please choose your city and get in touch with the local team.

Our instructional team has worked tirelessly to provide you our remote learning environment. They have applied the best practices from our classroom teaching approach, combined those with industry-leading remote education tools and developed the remote program with the following focus:

  • An instructor-led format with real-time interaction via Zoom
  • Mentorship and online support services during the course
  • Community-driven approach to provide a team atmosphere
  • Engaging group projects in Breakout Rooms : small private rooms that instructors can join to provide individualized support
  • Real-world preparation for a hybrid or remote work environment
  • Heavily outcomes-focused program with dedicated career services
  • Industry-leading remote education tools that allow instructors to draw right on your screen, see what you see, and type on your screen with you.

Since 2013, Ironhack has focused on our mission to help people transform their careers and join a thriving community of technology professionals who love what they do. This enduring mission guides us as we closely monitor, assess, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will continue to keep the Ironhack community updated on any changes as information becomes available.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding our on-site courses

Q. How is COVID affecting on-site courses? Are the future dates going to be postponed/cancelled?

A. The pandemic is a challenge for all sectors but at Ironhack we have been able to successfully move our classes to an instructor-led remote learning format which allows us to continue both with our ongoing classes as well as future ones. Under no circumstances are courses going to be cancelled, but there might be small modifications to them. If any of this applies to the course that you are enrolled in, our Admissions team will contact you as soon as the modifications are made.

Q. When are you planning to resume campus activities (such as classes, events, etc.)?

A. The safety and health of our students and staff are our highest priority. This is why we are closely monitoring the recommendations of public health experts and government authorities. We will resume on-site courses as soon as we are advised to do so.

Q. What will be the format for upcoming on-site courses that started remotely? What happens if we are able to go back to campus but not everyone is able to?

Once we are able to resume on-site courses, we will continue offering remote learning to all those students who are unable to come to class or because of health reasons, prefer to stay home. We will keep the core of the classroom via Zoom until everyone is able to attend classes in-person and on-site.

Q. Will career services be different while campus remains closed? What assistance will you provide to job seekers?

A. Our Career Services are made for the students to achieve several milestones during the duration of the bootcamp. The milestones during the first 9 weeks (or 24 for Part timers) are
completed through a self guided program called Careerhack, which helps you create your Resume/CV, LinkedIn and GitHub/Portfolio.

After the 9 week period (24 week for Part times), you’ll move onto our Career Week. If we have to continue instructor-led remote learning, our career weeks will be remote as well. The workshops during this week are transitioned to our remote learning space. After Career Week, our Career Services team will keep having touch-points with you, in order to understand your progress on the job search, share relevant information like events or job offers and to organize talks with our alumni in order to increase market knowledge.

Q. What are the requirements to attend remote classes?

To attend remote classes you will need:

  • A computer with a stable internet connection
  • A quiet place to work
  • Headphones/earbuds with a mic
  • Attendance is mandatory and will be monitored
  • You must be in the live virtual classroom at all times during class.
  • We recommend a minimum internet speed of 20mbps down/ 5mbps up.
  • We encourage to plug in via ethernet for the best results.

Q.What would happen if I get sick during the bootcamp?

A. With our remote learning, classes are always recorded, which gives you the option to review them in case you get sick. If the illness is serious and requires you to miss a long period of time, we will give the option to transition to a later edition of the course, without any costs added.

Q. Can I defer the payment/monthly installments as long as the quarantine period lasts?

A. We understand we are living in extraordinary circumstances and will try to help those of you in need to the best of our possibilities. All changes will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If there are any issues with your payment, we advise you to get in touch with your campus admissions manager.

Q. Is this an online course or a live one?

Unlike any other online course, our instructor-led classes consist of live virtual classrooms where lead teachers, TAs and students all interact together. Just like any other Ironhack course, you can raise your hand and ask questions, collaborate in breakout rooms and review the classes with our recorded sessions. Teaching Assistants will be available during all the learning sessions and also during open office hours to support you on your journey.
